C3 College Audition Requirements

All creative arts applications have audition requirements.
You can submit your audition by sending us a youtube link, dropbox invitation or email (please note we have limited capacity to receive large attachments on our email server). 


Performance Music & Worship Leading.

  • All applicants living in Sydney are required to do a live audition

  • All overseas and interstate applicants are to submit a video audition

    • The production value of your recording is not being assessed, so feel free to video record off your iPhone. Please no reverb, auto-tune or other effects

  • Please also include a written outline (200 words will suffice) of your history/experience in vocals & music

If you are applying for keys, guitar or bass

Applicants for these instruments are required to submit an audition of:

  • 1x Ballad

  • 1x Up Tempo Tune

  • 1x 12 Bar Blues.

  • Please also demonstrate two octaves, up and down, of the following scales:

    • Major, natural minor, major pentatonic, minor pentatonic and blues.

So that's a submission of 3 songs and the aforementioned scales.

If you are applying for drums

Applicants for drums are required to submit an audition of:

  • Styles

    • Please perform at least 16 bars each of the following styles:

      • Rock/Pop in 4/4

      • Rock/Pop in 6/8

      • 16th Shuffle

      • Blues Shuffle.

  • Snare Drum Technique

    • Please demonstrate your ability to play the following snare drum rudiments (playing 30 seconds non-stop)

    • Paradiddle

    • Double paradiddle

    • Double stroke roll

    • Single stroke roll

    • Buzz roll

  • Reading


Vocals & Worship Leading.

Auditions must be a video of you performing 3 x contemporary songs of different styles

  • 1 song of which must show an ability to sing harmony (either someone else singing or a recorded track)

  • Your vocals must be clearly distinguishable in the recording

  • The production value of your recording is not being assessed, so feel free to video record off your iPhone. Please no reverb, auto-tune or other effects

  • Please also include a written outline (200 words will suffice) of your history/experience in vocals & music

  • If you live in Sydney, you are required to do a live audition


Songwriting.

Applicants must submit an audio recording of at least 3 original songs

  • Including lyric sheets and chord charts for every song.

    • If you are an advanced songwriter, please include chord charts

    • Otherwise just the chords above the lyrics

  • Please ensure the songs you submit are non collaborative

  • Please also include a written outline (200 words will suffice) of your history/experience in vocals & music

  • Remember that the focus on composition not production (so don't worry too much about audio quality)


Film & Graphic Design.

Applicants must submit:

  • A short video of a piece directed and/or shot by you

  • A written outline (200 words will suffice) of the your history/experience in film and television

  • An additional written outline (200 words will suffice) of your vision for your future in film and television.


Visual Arts.

Applicants must submit:

  • Photographs of at least 5 paintings or drawings

  • A written outline (200 words will suffice) of your vision for your future in visual arts

  • If you have experience with computer graphic design and animation, Adobe Creative Suite, please supply 1-2 samples of work


Acting.

Applicants must submit:

  • A video performing 2 contrasting monologues

    • E.g. A humorous and a dramatic one

    • Please note Sydney applicants should contact us for a live audition

  • A written outline (200 words will suffice) of the your history/experience in acting

  • An additional written outline (200 words will suffice) of your vision for your future in acting


Sound & Production.

Applicants must submit:

  • A portfolio (photos and videos) of your experience in sound & production.

  • A written outline (200 words will suffice) of the your history/experience in sound & production.


Music Industry.

If you are applying for keys, guitar or bass

Applicants for these instruments are required to submit an audition of:

  1. Perform 3 songs of varying contemporary music styles/feels and tempos.

  2. A solo improvisation (minimum 16 bars) needs to be included in at least one of the three songs. This can be performed with a live band or to a backing track.

  3. Two octaves up and down of the following scales at minimum 100 BPM (in 8th Notes). Two hands for Keyboard Auditions.

  • Major Scale

  • Natural Minor Scale

  • Major Pentatonic

  • Minor Pentatonic

  • Blues Scale

If you are applying for drums

Applicants for drums are required to submit an audition of:

Snare Drum Rudiments

  • Single Stroke Roll – 150 BPM

  • Double Stroke Roll – 130 BPM

  • Paradiddles (with Accents) – 130 BPM

  • Double Paradiddles (with Accents) – 87 BPM

  • Buzz Roll – Quiet to Loud to Quiet

  • 5-Stroke Roll – 80 BPM

  • 7-Stroke Roll – 110 BPM

  • Flams – 120 BPM

Drum Set:

  • Perform 3 songs of varying contemporary music styles/feels and tempos.

  • A solo improvisation (minimum 16 bars) needs to be included in at least one of the three songs.

  • Drum Set Reading Evaluation (to be carried out during live audition or via Skype/FaceTime)

If you are applying for vocals

Applicants for vocals are required to submit an audition of:

  1. Perform 3 songs of varying contemporary music styles/feels and tempos that demonstrate vocal range and versatility.

  2. Perform Scarborough Fair with set expressive text (PDF to be given to applicants).

  3. One Octave ascending and descending of the following scales:

  • Major Scale

  • Harmonic Minor Scale

  • Major Pentatonic

  • Minor Pentatonic

  • Blues Scale

  • Major Triad Arpeggio

  • Minor Triad Arpeggio

  • Dom 7 Arpeggio
